Greenroof Media

Our green roof media is blended to specifications that meet guide lines for roof top use. A mixture of Perma Till expanded slate and orgainic compost featuring

  • High permeability with moisture retention for consistent hydro conductivity

  • Deep aeration for roots and beneficial microbes

  • Porous for additional storage and retention capacity to reduce runoff

EXTENSIVE Green roofs have a soil depth of approximately 1 to 6 inches and usually support 10-25 lbs of vegetation per square foot. Extensive roofs are designed to be self-sustaining and can be established on a thin layer of soil. The purpose of this type of roof is to maximize water use and moderate temperature extremes in the building while keeping the overall weight of the roof low.

INTENSIVE Green roofs are traditional style roof gardens with large trees and shrubs in a park like design. These roofs often include paths and walkways with space for people to interact. The planting medium starts at 6 inches and can range to several feet. These roof tops are designed to support as much as 150 lbs of vegetation per square foot.

BIO RETENTION SOIL MIXES FOR RAIN GARDENS

Bio-retention is the process in which contaminants and sedimentation are removed from storm water runoff. The bio retention cell, also known as a rain garden, slows the velocity of storm water runoff and distributes it evenly over the ponding area.

These customized soil mixes store, infiltrate, promote evaporation, retain and detain runoff.

STRUCTURAL SOIL for Urban Trees

Used for the planting of trees in paved environments this blend of Stalite expanded slate aggregate and specific approved sandy clay loam supports the weight of paving yet allows proper aeration and drainage for long term root system survival.

STRUCTURAL SOIL for bridging over existing tree roots

This Stalite expanded slate material is used to preserve existing trees root systems when increasing the soil grade for paving of parking lots, sidewalks, driveways or street. This product prevents root compaction and surface root damage while reducing storm water runoff.

STRUCTURAL SOIL for Turf Areas

A customized blend of Stalite expanded slate aggregate and specific approved sandy loam this product is used for grass parking areas, recreational turf and natural fire lanes. It is designed to withstand severe soil compaction and support heavy equipment while creating an air entrained environment for root establishment. The material doesn't decompose providing a permanent solution with a high compression strength of 40,000 lbs per square foot.
